Mail

The mail room (room 1230) is located on the first floor just off the rotunda. A staff MCard is required to enter the room.

Personal Rooms

Personal rooms are located on floors one, two, and four. They are closed door, individual spaces with soft seating and a desk and chair. The first floor and second floor spaces offer a sink, and the first floor space also offers a sharps container. Individuals can use these spaces for lactation, reflection, a medical need, or other personal uses.

The rooms can be used on a drop-in basis, or they can be scheduled in advance. Ruthven staff can schedule the spaces via Google Calendars, and the calendar names / room numbers can be found on this list of schedulable spaces. (Ruthven staff only – authentication required.)

Building Email Groups

RuthvenDOC (Ruthven Department Operational Contacts)

The [email protected] group is the building’s official communications fan-out system to building occupants for emergency alarm testing notification, building maintenance issues, event notification, and other business related communications.

The MCommunity group is maintained and updated by Ruthven Operations. Email [email protected] to request changes of membership.

Ruthven Building Staff

The purpose of the [email protected] group is to notify all Ruthven staff of building business-related communications and events.

The MCommunity group is maintained and updated by Ruthven Operations. To request updates to the group, department administrators should complete the Building Occupant Form (to notify of the need to onboard or offboard an employee).

Ruthven Student

The purpose of the [email protected] group is to create a common location for Ruthven Operations to know of student employees in the building. Once added to this group, the student employees will be granted limited MCard access to certain spaces and get permission to book conference room spaces on behalf of departments in the building.

The MCommunity group is maintained and updated by Ruthven Operations. Email [email protected] to request changes of membership.

Signage & Bulletin Boards

We encourage all signage to be posted on the bulletin boards located in the workrooms and kitchenettes on each floor:

  • Use pushpins or thumbtacks and do not use tape to post anywhere in the building.
  • Flyers should to be dated.
  • Flyers must be represented by a department in the Ruthven Building.
  • Flyers will be first come, first serve.
  • The bulletin boards on each floor will be used as “everything boards,” at the discretion of the departments on that floor.

If you have a need to post a sign elsewhere in the building (e.g. for an event), please contact [email protected] for options.

Solicitation & Donations

The Ruthven Building allows solicitation for donations (items) to a charity with the below procedures followed:

  • Must be sponsored by a Ruthven department. RuthvenDOC email cannot be used to solicit donations.
  • Email [email protected] before setting up a drop box in the building.
  • Collection location limited to kitchenette area. Box must be neat in appearance with function and sponsoring department clearly stated.
  • Pickups should occur regular so as to minimize theft and prevent overflow.
  • Drive lasts a maximum of 2 weeks.
  • The Ruthven building does not allow money collection boxes/containers.

Building Lost & Found

Turn keys into the Ruthven Guest Services Desk in the rotunda. Other lost and found items should also go to the Ruthven Guest Services Desk.

Appropriate Use of Building & U-M Resources

The physical resources that constitute the buildings, grounds, and equipment of the University are among our most valuable resources. As such, University-owned property is not to be used for personal, for-profit, or illegal purposes.

The building is for the use of faculty, staff, students, and visitors in pursuit of University activities including teaching, research, patient care, and administrative activities.

Bentley Historical Library Storage

More information coming soon.

Ruthven has a small storage room managed by Bentley Historical Library. This room is significantly smaller than the previous room in Fleming, as there’s less paper accumulation ongoing and many materials are transferred digitally. The Bentley storage room at Ruthven is not yet operations. More information coming soon.
